This post resonates with me. I've worked in healthcare for 30+ years. I've always had an affinity for geriatrics. You don't mention if you're new to the health care field, but over time you develop an innate sense of the difference between gentle persuasion and respecting the patient's right to refuse after those attempts have failed. If you can navigate and recognize those patients that might need additional encouragement from those that are steadfast refusing - it might make the job easier. I've met 85 year olds that if given information and the proper motivation are more willing and able to succeed in comparison to those much younger. Just depends on the individual.
